Who We Are -

As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Ozark Mountain Basset Rescue (OMBR) is completely dependent on the generosity of others. OMBR does not have paid employees, only volunteers who graciously donate their time to these deserving hounds. OMBR volunteers have jobs, families, and other important commitments. We do Basset rescue because we want to make a difference for those Basset Hounds that are not blessed with good homes. OMBR is dedicated to placing Bassets in our care into loving and dedicated forever homes.

OMBR does not have kennels. Rescued dogs stay in foster homes, where they receive vet care, nutritious food, and love. While in foster care, dogs are evaluated by a veterinarian and receive any treatment necessary, all dogs are spayed/neutered and are placed on heartworm preventative before going to their adopted home. In addition, foster homes provide a personality evaluation of each dog to ensure a better match between dog and prospective forever homes.

We Are Now Accepting Online Donations Through PayPal. All donations will go toward helping save the lives of homeless Basset hounds.

The "OMBR 24"

On July 29, 2007, OMBR took in 24 dogs from a puppy mill in Oklahoma. The story is heartwrenching, but true, and it's been "cleaned up" a bit because the real truth is nothing short of a horror story. You can read about these beautiful hounds who now have a chance at a wonderful, new life.

URGENTLY NEEDED!

Foster Homes in the Arkansas/Oklahoma area.

OMBR is currently having to turn away 2-3 dogs a week because we have no available space in our foster home system. If you can provide food, shelter, and most of all, love for a hound in need, please consider becoming a foster home.

Do you need to rehome your hound?

OMBR is being contacted more and more by people who, for economic or other unfortunate situations, are having to surrender their dogs. At this time, we have no foster space available, so we would like to offer these hints on how to safely place your dog:

How to Safely Rehome Your Dog

We truly hope these suggestions help find safe, secure homes for those dogs in need, and offer some sense of relief for their owners.
